Why $44?

Last week, I spent some time registering to participate in a variety of events: psychic fairs, small solo mediumship demonstrations, etc. As I was going through the details, I began to reevaluate what constitutes a fair and reasonable charge for these shorter readings. At the last big expo that I did, I charged $50 for a 30 minute reading. Looking for a second opinion, I texted my sister-in-law and asked for her input because while I do not want to overcharge, I also want to make sure that I am not under-pricing myself .

She provided her thoughts and suggested possibly $40 for this type of an event or maybe $45. I said that maybe I should just charge $44 to honor my sister and her love that number. (It was her son’s college football jersey number and when, one week after her passing, we all went to his last home game as a senior, the final score had his team winning with 44 points.)

When I closed the text thread with my sister-in-law, I noticed on my home screen that I had 44 emails. So I texted her again and said that I think that this is probably a sign.

Right then my ceiling fan lights started flickering. I immediately sent another text to share, and the lights did it again. I was covered in chills and knew that my sister was doing it as she has flickered lights for others since being on the other side and because I could feel her presence.

I, then, looked up the meaning of the number 44 and the top post on Google read that “it carries a spiritual meaning of strength, self-discipline, balance, positive energy, and achievement. That it reminds you to stay strong in challenging situations, maintain balance in your life, protect your positive energy, and work towards your goals.” AND this post was made on May 18th, my sister’s birthday!

While I was taking a screenshot of this to send it to my sister-in-law, the ceiling fan lights flickered again and then again! THEN, the light bulb that has been burned out for a few days came back on, and it is still burning brightly. I was completely covered in chills and had to ask my sister to stop.

Of course, I am now charging $44 at events for 30 minute readings.

Later, when the light bulbs were cool to the touch, I checked to see if any of them were loose, especially the one that had been burnt out. They were all secure, as I knew they would be.

Her Long Forgotten Garden: a dream

  "Her Long Forgotten Garden"

- a dream collage 2012

Many moons ago, I visited one of my recurring “dream” homes and planted a garden, a garden which I promptly forgot all about until I visited the house again in 2006. While the house does not resemble any of those I have lived in during my waking hours, the rural neighborhood is where I spent my early childhood years.

In this dream, I am outside rediscovering my long-forgotten garden. It is the end of winter, the beginning of spring thaw. Snow and ice still cover everything, but is slowly melting. The chilly weather does nothing to dampen my enthusiasm. Everywhere I look there are wonderful surprises, some of which I don’t remember planting, but intrinsically know that I did.

One small, beautiful tree is a special treat. When I see it, I exclaim, “Oh! I had forgotten that I had planted a pear tree!”, but upon closer inspection, I find a strange fruit which appears to be a cousin to white onions, only far more alien looking. I am delighted with the rarity.

Not long after this discovery, I notice another garden, (also mine) further down to the right, or North, of the first. This garden is even more forgotten. It is littered with trash, which I start picking up immediately. As I am cleaning up, I notice that under the scattered litter and disappearing ice and snow patches there are living plants. I am very excited to find them, but am also forlorn that they have gone so long forgotten. I vow to spend more time in my gardens and to provide them with the care they need and deserve.

Since this last dream over 18 years ago, I don’t recall having gone back to visit the gardens, but I would definitely like to check in on their well being. I have a feeling they are fairing much better now and that blooms abound.

wilted fall form forlorn

brittle, spent brilliance bloomed

bends to kiss the earth once more

in humble homage, a parting gift
